Scooters: Not Road Menace

AUSTRALIA'S Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries has come out fighting over a recent claim by insurance company AAMI that scooter riders are the new menace on Australian roads.

"The industry totally rejects these claims," said FCAI chief executive Andrew McKellar, suggesting that the claims are not supported by the insurance company's own research.

Commenting on the claim that 33 per cent of respondents claimed scooters to be a menace, he said that meant 67 per cent found scooter riders to be acceptable.

"The FCAI believes that the growing numbers of scooter riders are legitimate road users and, like most other road users, the majority of them are responsible and sensible."
